Flex vs Edge: how the drawdown differs
Flex uses an intraday trailing drawdown and Edge an end-of-day drawdown. Here is the difference with examples.
Updated November 1, 2026
Both programs have a maximum drawdown of 4% of the account size. The difference is when your drawdown limit moves up.
Challenge Flex: intraday trailing drawdown
The limit follows your highest equity in real time, including the profit of open positions. Every time your equity makes a new high, even for a moment, the limit moves up.
Example on a 50K account (limit starts at $48,000):
| Moment | Equity | Drawdown limit |
|---|---|---|
| Start | $50,000 | $48,000 |
| Open trade reaches +$1,500 | $51,500 | $49,500 |
| You close the trade at +$200 | $50,200 | $49,500 |
Even though you only closed +$200, the limit moved up to $49,500 because your equity reached $51,500 during the trade. Your available room is now $700.
Challenge Edge: end-of-day drawdown
The limit is updated only at the close of each session, based on your end-of-day balance. Price movements during the session do not move it up.
Example on a 50K account (limit starts at $48,000):
| Moment | Equity | Drawdown limit |
|---|---|---|
| Start | $50,000 | $48,000 |
| Open trade reaches +$1,500 | $51,500 | $48,000 |
| You close the session at +$200 | $50,200 | $48,000 → $48,200 at the close |
The intraday peak of $51,500 does not affect your limit. At the close, the limit moves up to $48,200, 4% below your end-of-day balance.
Important on both programs
The drawdown limit is checked in real time on both programs. On Edge the limit only moves at the close, but if your equity touches it during the session, the account is breached.
